Don Cravens

(New Mexico, USA)

I am 71 years young, married 53 years to my high school sweetie. I spent 4 years on active duty with the US Navy. I am currently the Flotilla Vice Commander of Flotilla 2-3 of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary Of Navajo Dam in New Mexico. I was Skipper of Sea Scout Ship 170 BSA for nearly 20 years.. I have been sailing off and on for about 42 years and have taught young adults from 14 to 21 years old to sail.

I have owned a 21 foot flying Dutchman, a 19 foot Lightning, a 16 foot Luger Leeward, a 26 foot Luger Tradewinds, and many smaller boats. I now own a 22 ft. Catalina, a 24 ft. Macgregor Venture, a 22 ft Hunter (which I have not sailed yet) I also have use of a 30 ft. Catalina which I sail a lot on Navajo Lake, which is about 35 miles from Farmington, NM.

Long live the Flying Dutchmen!

Hi Don,

You're the 2nd USA Don we met here, the first one also a Navy man, 70 years young, from Ohio. As he follows this site closely, I think you'll meet him, but take care: all messages are meant to be about sailing, and Ohio Don isn't an active sailor any more.
Glad to see you sailed an FD too, I still think it's the most exciting boat afloat, although my experience with it dates back to the 60's.
I sure hope to see more of you on this site, maybe as another expert?

Regards,

Han.

Hi; I am almost 73 now and still sail a lot. I am now the Flotilla Commander of Flotilla 23. I spend a lot of time on Navajo Lake, sailing the 30 foot Catalina "Romance". My Flotilla is in the process of planning a sailing outing which will include sailing from the Dam up to Arbole,
Colorado. This is about 35 miles up a often narrow canyon. The trip will include several large sailboats from 22 feet to 30 feet. My sailboats will be there too.I have taught members of my Flotilla to sail also. Don

Cruising is difficult work on the grounds that it needs online essay writing company and part of involvement with speedy personality. Here in online journal there is gentleman is mariner who cruised numerous littler water crafts and he is content with his work. This can be a motivation for new mariners why should stress begin it.
