Flying Dutchman class, still the fastest boat upwind.

by Han
(Brittany, France)

In the sixties, 50 years ago, together with the friend who owned it, I helmed and crewed this boat, which was then nicknamed "the sailing Ferrari".

Have fun!

Fantastic Boat!
by: Dean Rittenhouse

I learned how to sail on a Flying Dutchman when I was 5 years old (1960). My next door neighbor owned one and he was generous and patient enough to teach me to sail.

Now, after owning several sailboats, both big and small, I am looking for a used Dutchman.

If you know of or own a Dutchman for sale near New York State, please contact me at dean13827 [at] yahoo.com.

FD centerboard well
by: Anonymous

I am putting my FD together. I am looking for some material such as mylar to install on the bottom of my centerboard well to prevent water from splashing up. What is generally used and how can I get it?

Ah, more FD fans!

Hi Dean and Geoff,

The best I can do is refer you to the forum of the FD international class organisation: http://www.fdbulletin.org/forum/phpBB3/, as I am out of experience with it for about 50 years...
Sorry it took me so long to comment, I was kept busy with some sad family affairs.

Regards, and have a good sailing summer!

Raced Dutchman in Arkansas in 1970s-80s, had Olympic Silver medalist in club - great fun, great boat. Won regionals with a guy from Texas- don't even recall who - but we had a blast!
