Frisian eeltraders in London

In my article on the Lemsteraak (also called palingaak = eel-barge) I mentioned this type of ship had a berth in London. The title-picture is of that berth with some palingaken.

The eel they traded was caught in the Baltic countries as well as in the Netherlands, and was transported alive in quantities of up to 20.000 lb per ship.

On this site: http://www.palingaak.nl/index.php?page=29 you'll find more photo's from the time of the trade, before 1914. Click on one of them to start the slide-show.
