Heavyweight Sailing

by wes
(Michigan)

I am 320 lbs and skipper a 420 in collegiate regattas, now i notice that I cannot point as high as the boats around me and definitely can't maintain that speed especially on tacks. And the one thing that I really notice is that when I look at my wake, even though the boat is flat there is a significant amount of sideways drift going on that the keel should prevent. I tried getting my weight more forward but it still happens. So as a heavyweight, how do I maintain my speed through tacks and especially get rid of that darn sideways drift. Thanks

Wes
