Dutch Barge

by Dave

My old friend is building a Dutch vessel in the traditional manner. Do you know anything about this particular type and do you have any experience of it. It is called a Boeier?

Thanks
Dave

Boeier, from barge (15th century) to yacht.
by: Han

Hi Dave,
The boeier stems from the 15th century and was one of the most succesful Friesian/Dutch shallow-draught multi-purpose vessels; it was especially used for trade between Holland and the shallow waters of the Seine river to Rouen.
Nowadays it is a rather big type of yacht and very expensive to build and maintain.
Use this url: http://www.bartscheepsmodellen.nl/tekoop/sperwer.html to get a picture of a model of Sperwer, length some 42 ft, beam 14 ft, built in 1885, said to be sailed by the man who stood model for James Bond.

Hi Han
Many thanks for that what an interesting project, now I know why it is taking so long!
What an history and the thanks for the website I will pass in on to my friend and he may contact you.
That was interesting about James Bond and what a splendid vessel.
I would like to see one or even better go on one.
Keep in touch
