How much power needed for a 25ft O'Day

by Liz
(Florida)

Will a 6hp 4 stroke push a 25ft O'Day? I just need to get in and out of the marina and I am sailing inland.

Thanks,
Liz

25' oday motor
by: Ron

Hi Liz: I don't know if this is a current question, but here is what I think. I have a 25' oday with a 9.9 Evenrude, electric start motor.
I only use it to back out of slip and sometime to come in, (mostly sail right in.) every once in a while we will explore around some islands in the lake and use the motor due to bad wind. That works well also. I have a shoal keel adn draw 30" of water, so I come into beach areas pretty tight. I hae been hung up and the motor really
works hard to pull me out. Also, if I have a strong north wind, my 9.9 will hardly reverse me out of my slip. So my feeling is I would not want less than a 9.9 motor on a 25' Oday. Remember, you are trying to push over 6000 lbs. with people on it. Ron
