Portuguese sailing ships

by Judy
(Texas)

I'm looking for a picture of old Portuguese sailing ship/s.

I'm planning a quilt for my daughter and son-in-law who is from Hawaii and of Portuguese heritage. Any suggestions where I might find some? Regretfully my only connection with sailing was lessons in Newport Bay, Calif where I blew up on John Wayne's beach and was run (pushed} off by his security people!!
So embarassing!

Nao or Carrack
by: Han

Hi Judy,

I don't know when you wrote your question; whatever the reason, I saw it today so hurried to give you this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrack ; it contains pictures of Portuguese Carracks, THE Ocean-going ship of it's time.

Regards, Han.

Caravela + Nau
by: Luis Portal

The portuguese started theyr discoveries with the Caravela , went afterwards to the Nau, bigger and
better for downwind passages to the Indies .
Will be glad in giving you further information.
