Hello everyone!

18 years old newbie sailer here.

I'm planning to join a club. For now, I'm just joining with friends. Got influenced a little and really liked it a lot. I've tried sailing a sloop type. I'm not just sure if that's what's it called. Just have one mast and a head sail and that's it. Anyways, I really like joining communities specially this one since I'm really starting to be interested at sailing. Ciao!

Welcome!

Hi Takatenamano,

Welcome to the forums! The boat you are referring to is a single handler, which does not have a gib or genoa, like a Laser One or Laser Pico. Where do you live and sail? What is the club called?

That's it! Mine is a single handler too, or perhaps close to that. :P

By the way, hello too takatenamano. I'm new here as well.

Hello all

I'm still planning on joining a club so there really isn't any particular club I'm thinking of joining in. I live in the Philippines and this is also where I first experienced sailing.

I'm at the University of Santo Tomas. I'm taking up philosophy courses. Why about you?

I am in my last year of school, doing my a-levels. I want to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Southampton.

Wow!

Cool! You know I tried listening to some engineering classes with my engineering friends and my head really swirled for about an hour or so. Can't follow to the discussion. I guess math is just really not my friend. Ha ha. Do you find sailing sometimes to be a hindrance at school?

not at all!
by: Alex

Hi Takatenamano,

Not at all! In fact I sail at school as well, in the Docklands area of London that fell into disrepair during the 1980s after all the large cargo ships moved further down the Thames. Now it is a nice place to sail, but the buildings make very flukey winds and produce enormous gusts that can capsize the unaware sailor. I feel that sailing is something that helps me do school, because it gives me a time to relax as well as getting an adrenaline rush!
